Who Are We, What This Is
We're libertarians, anarchists, and socialists. We're liberals, conservatives, and idealists. We're pacifists, activists, and vegetarians. We're blacks and whites, Asians and Native Americans, gays and straights and writers and artists and thinkers and doers. And we're dissatified. With lobbyists and corporations holding great sway over government. With governments increasingly keep tabs on citizens, determing what we can and can't do. With the mistakes of our current leaders and with the direction our world is heading. And we're looking to change that.
This site is intended to support and distribute information relevant to our time. We hope for it to be a new and useful work, yet to hold true to the spirit of the original. It should provide useful information to those who value freedom, peace, and justice. This site contains the how-to information on everything from how to grow a garden to how to teach a college level class. We want to put the means of production for basic needs back into the hands of every person.
This site is not designed for senseless vandalism or theft and does not condone the use of violence in revolution. Additionally, where we have many knowledgable editors, it is impossible to ensure verify the accuracy of everything included. It is still up to you, our readers, to use their own research skills and common sense.
Editing Guidelines
- Use correct MediaWiki syntax. This isn't just a nitpick -- doing so helps us index our content efficiently, which in turn helps people read what we have to say. If you're new to MediaWiki (the software that powers this site), you might be interested in taking a look at the MediaWiki Editing Basics and the Wikipedia Page Editing Guide. We use the same software as is mentioned on both of those sites, so any syntax, etc. you see there can be applied here.
- Please make your edits professional. We understand that typos happen, but for the sake of those who may rely on your information, make sure you are 100% correct in your terms, names, quantities, etc. Just as an example: the difference between "nitrate" and "nitrite" is a small, yet deadly one.
- Don't ask questions in articles -- that's what the talk pages are for. If you're going to edit a page, but you're not 100% sure of your information, don't click "edit" -- instead, click the tab marked "discussion".
- Don't add content that you didn't write (or that you don't have the rights to re-publish.) If a page on some other site has valuable content, either e-mail the webmaster and encourage him to contribute to the wiki, or find a way to include an original version of that information. If you plagiarize, your edits will be reverted. If you repeatedly plagiarize, your editing privileges will be revoked.
- Don't flame. It doesn't accomplish anything.
- Don't vandalize pages. Vandalism ("_____ was here", etc.) is the surest way to get banned.
- Don't get in an edit war. If someone corrects something you wrote, and if you disagree with the correction, bring it up on the discussion/talk page -- don't constantly revert someone else's changes.
- Use correct spelling (with the exception of satire, such as "Amerika") and grammar. It makes us look less credible when pages are filled with silly mistakes.
Things We Need Help With
Free Cities
We need everyone who has useful data or experience on any of the cities in Liberate to contribute so we will have a good reference for yippie kids on the move.
Art
Are you an illustrator, doodler, photographer or cartoonist? If you are, we would like to have artwork randomly placed throughout the book, especially on Chapter opening pages. Adding images to the wiki is easy, and we'd love to see your visual interpretations of Steal This Book Now in Picture Requests!
ReachOut
We'd like to make a list (something we all consider and contribute to) of forums/blogs/news sites that we can reach out to for further collaboration. For the most part, we'd like to focus on these groups:
- • Low-income Americans
- • Students, particularly college-age
- • Those traditionally considered "Minorities" - Black, Asian, Native Americans, Hispanic - anyone in America who is being marginalized because of the color of his or her skin, religion, etc.
- • Immigrants, particularly undocumented
This list can be compiled on our new ReachOut page. Once we have a good, full list, we can contact these groups. (That's not to say that we cant invite anyone at any point, because we can!)
Site Extras
We need help with formatting and some extras for the site itself. Calling all revolutionary geeks!
Anyone experienced with adding MediaWiki extensions is encouraged to contact either firsty at stealthiswiki.org or root at stealthiswiki.org just make a note in the appropriate discussion section.
Why was my IP banned?
Because you did something contrary to the spirit of the project.
We do not intend to be liberal with our banning of IPs, but this wiki is not the place to argue about the appropriateness of this project. If you have comments about a certain section, please keep them civil, keep them within some realm of focus that demonstrates that you have read the original text and that you somehow appreciate the text for its social and political meaning, and most importantly, keep them within the discussion pages, or on our forums.
We are more than happy to specifically address concerns from people who fundamentally disagree with the project. In those cases, please e-mail firsty at stealthiswiki.org and he will respond as quickly and thoroughly as possible. If you don't email with your fundamental disagreements with the project, and instead post edits to articles that demonstrate your disagreement solely for the sake of making your point (i.e. if you vandalize pages, get in edit wars, etc.), you will likely be banned.
Again, we welcome disagreement, just try and be adult about it. The wiki is designed for documentation. The forum is for discussion. Simple, no?
