Welcome Little Brother Readers

We are happy to see our hard work being listed as source material in major book releases like Cory Doctorows new book Little Brother. http://craphound.com/littlebrother/ The results are in, Little Brother just hit the New York Times Kids bestseller list (#9). Download the book and if you like it buy it, or if e-book is good for you donate to the school book program.

Download Steal This Book Today, Alpha Release

The latest alpha release of Steal This Book Today has been released to the public and is available for download as a PDF or ODT Open Office word processor file. This is an easy way to have an offline guidebook copy of the Steal This Book update for your computer or PDA, it is also what you need to print your own hard copy which we describe in Starting a Printing Workshop. We have merged the work into a single file which contains over 400 pages of the most useful street and homeless survival combined with plenty of ways to fight systemic oppression of all sorts. An alpha release is an early working release, some features may not be fully complete or polished. Download it, print it, share it, edit it, steal it Today!

To download Alpha Release 0.10, head on over to the Alpha Release page for a list of mirrors.

A Word About Bandwidth

This site uses quite a bit of bandwidth every day. Since we have no advertisements (and never will), we are completely dependent on member donations to keep us afloat. You don't have to donate (and this is pretty much the only pitch for donations we'll give you), but we'd appreciate it.

To donate to us, please visit our home page, and use the form there. Donations made from that page will go directly to our hosting provider, where they can only be used for server costs. We couldn't use the money for anything else, even if we wanted to. Thanks in advance!

What is Steal This Wiki?

Steal This Wiki is a collaborative update of Abbie Hoffman's seminal work, "Steal This Book".

Here is our General Plan.

Perhaps you'd like to browse the Table of Contents, or instead, visit our discussion forum.

If you're feeling nostalgic, you can download the original book in PDF form.

Welcome!

We appreciate your visiting and we look forward to your contributions. If you have any questions about the project, please email either firsty at stealthiswiki.org. If you have any problems with the site(s), please contact root at stealthiswiki.org.

Getting Started

Please read the following articles before editing an article:

General Guidelines

Who are we?

If you're new to MediaWiki (the software that powers this site), you might be interested in taking a look at the MediaWiki Editing Basics and the Wikipedia Page Editing Guide. We use the same software as is mentioned on both of those sites, so any syntax, etc. you see there can be applied here.

Things we need help with

Free Cities

We need everyone who has useful data or experience on any of the cities in Liberate to contribute so we will have a good reference for yippie kids on the move.

Art

Are you an illustrator, doodler, photographer or cartoonist? If you are, we would like to have artwork randomly placed throughout the book, especially on Chapter opening pages. Adding images to the wiki is easy, and we'd love to see your visual interpretations of Steal This Book Now in Picture Requests!

ReachOut

We had a very successful launch and we've had some great activity so far. For the next step, we'd like to make a list (something we all consider and contribute to) of forums/blogs/news sites that we can reach out to for further collaboration. For the most part, we'd like to focus on these groups:

• Low-income Americans
• Students, particularly college-age
• Those traditionally considered "Minorities" - Black, Asian, Native Americans, Hispanic - anyone in America who is being marginalized because of the color of his or her skin, religion, etc.
• Immigrants, particularly undocumented

This list can be compiled on our new ReachOut page. Once we have a good, full list, we can contact these groups. (That's not to say that we cant invite anyone at any point, because we can!)

Introduction Movie

We'd like to create a short web movie that takes new users through the steps of signing up and editing pages. If you have experience with that kind of thing and are willing to help, please e-mail firsty at stealthiswiki.org or root at stealthiswiki.org. Thanks!

Site Extras

We need help with formatting and some extras for the site itself. Calling all revolutionary geeks!

Anyone experienced with adding MediaWiki extensions is encouraged to contact either firsty at stealthiswiki.org or root at stealthiswiki.org just make a note in the appropriate discussion section.

Why was my IP banned?

Because you did something contrary to the spirit of the project.

We do not intend to be liberal with our banning of IPs, but this wiki is not the place to argue about the appropriateness of this project. If you have comments about a certain section, please keep them civil, keep them within some realm of focus that demonstrates that you have read the original text and that you somehow appreciate the text for its social and political meaning, and most importantly, keep them within the discussion pages, or on our forums.

We are more than happy to specifically address concerns from people who fundamentally disagree with the project. In those cases, please e-mail firsty at stealthiswiki.org and he will respond as quickly and thoroughly as possible. If you don't email with your fundamental disagreements with the project, and instead post edits to articles that demonstrate your disagreement solely for the sake of making your point (i.e. if you vandalize pages, get in edit wars, etc.), you will likely be banned.

Again, we welcome disagreement, just try and be adult about it. The wiki is designed for documentation. The forum is for discussion. Simple, no?
