Talk:Communes

I tried to rewrite this page some. Before, it was focused entirely on one sort of radical commune, and I thought it needed to include more types, particular the simpler, smaller sort along the lines of what Hoffman describes (I actually copied the half of Hoffman's article that still seems entirely up to date to the main body of the article, where I think it might benefit from being expanded to be a little more thorough). I think the page could still use some cleaning up and some expansion. -dcopulsky

I cut this: "Housing Economy: Why is the man against this type of housing? It all has to do with shortages and substitution in an economy. If there is no substitute to an expensive house, condo, or apartment the next step down is the streets, not a palatable alternative for most people. The system is set up to force debt slaves to stay working with no drop out options. The other reason is that substitution will drive down prices reducing investment and resale property values as fair competition enters the market." I feel like maybe it could be rewritten in some way, but I feel like, as is, it is too preposterous. I think it makes some accurate observations about our housing system and debt and problems with this, but I think the way it makes everything into a plan of "the man" goes too far. Anyway, a lot of communes and intentional communities are entirely legal, so/and what's this paragraph is really addressing is alternative housing solutions that are done in make-shift situations and/or that break zoning and housing regulations. These laws might be unfair, but I think to say that the only reason they are there is "the man's" oppressive economic plan is preposterous - they are obviously there, in part, out of concerns for health and safety. -dcopulsky
