We need MANY cities. the world is much different now, the nation is much different. we need to fuck more cities this time around. and by "fuck," i mean, "make sweet sweet love" to the freedoms of these cities, the nature of these cities, the unique city-ness of these cities. --Firsty 11:16, 30 June 2006 (PDT)

If you'd like to start working on a city of your own, simply add it to the list, framed by double brackets, and start working on it. --firsty 08:05, 5 July 2006 (PDT)

Wikipedia Cities info

I am planning to start importing wikipedia city data with citiation to many of the cities listed, Either we do that or we need to remove the cities with only one or two sentence entries on the template, it just is not useful. If anyone wants to help lets wait a few days for comments before beginning for a comment period. Jan 12, 2008

I guess my vote is for pulling the info for all of the cities. The publicly availible info is good to have, along side our info.

We need to have a standard template and a limit to keep from people pulling whole entries for every city in the US. My suggestion is top international escape cities, and major urban centers of activism in the US. Do we want entries for good wilderness areas too? I really worry about people getting too carried away with this, should/could this evolve into some sort of hitchikers guide to the Yippie USA appendix to the printed book? Any other ideas?

Fuck Template?

You know, maybe we could set up a template for these "Fuck City" pages, so people could kind of fill in the blanks? Not to stifle anyone, but just to give them a starting point if they want one. Good idea? Doctormatt 18:36, 2 August 2006 (PDT)

hell yes good idea.--firsty 06:16, 3 August 2006 (PDT)
the Fuck Dallas page might be a good template. I like the idea of keying/tagging the information like it was done there. --firsty 06:35, 3 August 2006 (PDT)
The Dallas page seems way too long - we don't need to repeat a ton of information that's in the phone book, do we? As a handbook, that's not going to work very well. I like the idea of the "Fuck City" pages having information that is specific to each city: what do you especially need to know to get by in a particular city versus information would help in any city. Every U.S. city has (I bet...) Salvation Army services/stores - there's no reason to list their location in each "Fuck City" page, right? But is there something unique about the transit system, the parks, the shelters, etc. that it would be good for people to know? General descriptions of parts of town might be good: where the cops leave you (the most) alone, where the best cheap food is, etc. Not a listing of all the parks, but the best parks for crashing, etc. ? Doctormatt 11:29, 3 August 2006 (PDT)
good point. the pages should be more narrative, first of all. i dont mind having a quick reference guide for cities, tho, either. maybe something like dallas but more brief or more focused, there is probably a lot of info on there that doesnt specifically apply here. it would be good if we had a new city to start with, that had a lot of info, and we could design a template from there. or, we could settle on a few headings. lets do that.--firsty 12:43, 3 August 2006 (PDT)
suggested headings
parks with free shelter
how to get around
wi-fi locations
freedom/rights groups
legal resources
etc
How about: basic geography/description of neighborhoods Doctormatt 21:35, 4 August 2006 (PDT)
Thats a good idea, too. Actually, for the headings within the Fuck This City sections, Abbie originally followed a structure similar to the first part of the book (Freebies, Housing, etc.), with specific information, more detailed information, for the cities he included. So, we should scratch my list up there (except for considering some as adds), and go with the outline of the first section of the book, apply that to each city, and fill in where we can. --firsty 10:32, 8 August 2006 (PDT)
I made a template called Fuck This City Template. Check it out. --firsty 11:42, 8 August 2006 (PDT)
I should have said it a long time ago: good work on the template. Cheers, Doctormatt 21:56, 19 December 2006 (PST)
Fuck Dallas, is definitely too long. I need to wikify it and have been lazy and full of inaction for too long. And it's not just a list of stuff that can be found in a phonebook. I think the addresses and phone numbers of these services need to be list, but not in the format I have now. If you take a look, this list, lists places that will give money, specific to Dallas. A lot of this kind of information is very difficult to find on the web if you don't know where to look. I'll try to wikify in between sessions of sticking it to the man and trying to get a free lunch. --Filthy swine 08:04, 30 December 2006 (PST)

Rename?

Hey, in the interest of not alienating more folks, what do people think about changing these "Fuck City" titles to something else? Should the utilization of the not-for-profit goodwill of some people of a city be referred to as "fucking" that city? I think we could come up with a better name than Abbie did. We don't really even need a title: the city name in the appropriate section is really all that we need. Whatcha think? -- Doctormatt 21:55, 19 December 2006 (PST)

Maybe it should be "Free New York," etc. replace "fuck" with "free". ? --firsty 09:43, 20 December 2006 (PST)
Yeah, that sounds better. I like that "free" can then stand as an adjective or as a verb (i.e., a command). -- Doctormatt 13:08, 20 December 2006 (PST)
Permit me to second the motion. "Free New York" sounds much better and more inviting than "Fuck New York". -- Unidyne 19:03, 20 December 2006 (PST)
Looks like we have a consensus! we can change the wording within pages. for now, i'll leave the daunting task of altering all the pages themselves for a less hectic week. --firsty 07:52, 21 December 2006 (PST)
