Most payphones cost more than a quarter now just to make a call. If you find yourself stuck with no change and no kind storekeeper who will give you change without selling you a pack of gum for 85 cents, you can look for a vending machine nearby that takes bills. If you put 2 dollar bills in the slot, and then hit the red button to get your money back, you will often be given one bill back and 4 quarters instead of your 2 original bills.
